New favourites

Just discovered an amazing blog, Loose Threads. I'm sure you know by now that I am an art lover and I absolutely loved the work of an artist that was featured on the blog, Lee Price. Some of her work below.

Portrait Project

I got paired with the lovely Ana-Nicole who, as I found out, lives just around the corner from me. I love that we can express ourselves in whichever way we want, even if we aren't amazing artists. Thanks Angie for an awesome project!

Wotalotigot!

Just found out I won these awesome goodies from Bow Peep, Heathers Leathers & Love Lolla. I'm thinking of sending something from the hamper to my Cupcake Couture Package Partner who stays in the US :)

Bow Peep and Love Lolla will be at the City Bowl Fashion Market this Saturday, if any of you like what you see here!

Anthea wearing Vintage Vixen

I have to share this with you. One of my favourite bloggers, Anthea from Embracing Style, just did an outfit post wearing a dress she bought from me a while ago. Anthea's blog is my all-time favourite and basically the first fashion blog I was exposed to. She has the most awesome sense of style and she and her boyfriend take beautiful pictures of all the places they visit.

I think this looks fabulous on her, and she has mentioned before how much she loves Peter-Pan collars :)

The best rock concert I've ever been to

WOW. That's all I can say for last night's concert. The sound was crystal clear. Caleb sounded exactly like he does on the albums. The lights & visual effects were completely insync with the music. One thing about those rockers, they really do put on a show!

view from the top at the start of the concert

I was quite disappointed with the turnout of the crowd. I suppose many people just couldn't make the postponed date, but I felt that we could have done better. I was unfortunately surrounded by a bunch of poppies and Camps Bay girls who were undoubtedly only there because their boyfriends love the band and because they heard "Sex on Fire" or "Use Somebody" on the radio. There were also utterly wasted college guys falling all over my friends and me and just generally being douches. This one chick got on her boyfriend's shoulders and the poor vertically challenged people behind me could see stuff-all! I thought that was so inconsiderate. Plus her ass was in everyone's face which was gross.

And boy, do I hate those people who push through the crowds. I am slightly forgiving to the ones who are genuinely sorry they are invading your space, but still. There was also this weird bubbly plastic sheeting that we had to stand on and I had to hobble on the way back, BUT, it was STILL worth it.

 KOL!!!

I must admit that I also only really heard about KOL for the first time when I heard Sex on Fire, but then I listened to their previous stuff as well and bought Only By The Night. I enjoyed singing along to all of the songs and loved their setlist. I thought most of the people around me who weren't such hardcore KOL fans should have got seated tickets. I was there because I appreciated the band and wanted to rock out!!

I didn't really pay much attention the the opening bands - Shadowclub had basically finished playing when we arrived and I don't fancy the Black Hotels much. I was looking forward the Die Heuwels, but was disappointed as it seemed half of the band was missing?! Why was Philip Erasmus from Thieve on drums? The band just didn't sound the same. Special guest Jack Parow sounded like he had lost his voice.

It would have been really awesome if the band had communicated with us a bit. They said the usual "Are you having a good time?" "We're so happy to be here" etc but I think they took themselves a little too seriously. I loved hearing Caleb's Southern drawl though, it's adorable!

these photos don't do them justice AT ALL

The visual effects were UNBELIEVABLE. I have NEVER seen such awesomeness at a concert before. The images they showed went so well with the mood of each song, it was beautiful. I actually felt quite emotional, it was that good.

I would definitely go to another KOL concert, and would love to see how they perform overseas. Caleb mentioned that they were planning to stay a bit longer, and I hope they get to see more of our beautiful city.

Oh yes, Alex Fourie from Foto Na Dans walked past me! I told my friends but they didn't know who I was talking about. I have a knack for knowing everything about bands - even bands I don't like. But I do like Foto Na Dans. I also met Melissa Allen from Miss Molly which was pretty cool!

Blogger Get Together at French Toast

On 6 October I went to the Cape Town Blogger Meet-Up. I chatted to @shopbowpeep, @time_andafew, @bestcapetownSA, @cocotheblog, @clairevandyk, @tessatuttle, @gabygunslinger and @tashclark who organised the event. Saw a lot of people I didn't recognise! I noticed that most people tended to get a bit "clique-y", but all in all it was a great night. I would definitely recommend you pop into French Toast soon.

36 Boutiques

When I had first heard about the awesome South African online boutique, 36Boutiques, I immediately signed up to be on their mailing list. They support South African designers and stock a wide range of clothes and accessories. Since they launched, I have been receiving super informative newsletters, and last week I decided to buy this cross body tassle bag from Black Cherry that was on sale for R109. I ordered it online on Saturday and it was delivered this morning by Berco Couriers. There are only 8 left, so if you want one, go to their website now!

You Me and Everyone We Know Night Market

On Friday last week I went to my first YMEWK market. The variety of clothes there was amazing and couldn't help but buy something. My friend and I found that just looking at the kinds of people there was enough entertainment for us!

Below are the items I bought:

Awesome butterfly print dress from Wanted Vintage (all dresses were on sale for R100)

Beautiful Paisley jacket - don't know what the name of the stall was but the elderly lady told me she had originally made it for a friend and the material was from the Orient.
I paid R75 for it!

I was disgusted to find that some people were selling cheap Chinese clothes for insane prices. A dress that I had seen at the Muizenberg flea market for R80 was being sold for R350 at YMEWK. I don't think that should be tolerated, and the organisers should check what is sold.

Forever New (Thanks Melissa)

I was lucky enough to win this giveaway over at Melissa's blog. I rushed down to the Waterfront to see what they had "in store" for me ;) There is a fabulous sale on at the moment, where all sale items are reduced and the second sale item you buy is less 50%!

Beautiful packaging

These are my new earrings:

Luckily I've got pretty big earlobes...

I also got skinny black pants with rocking zip detail (a good staple to have in your closet) and skinny cargo pants. I must note that both pairs of pants will make anyone's butt look fabulous.
The sizing at FN is a little different to what we're used to down here, so don't be shocked if you only fit a size up from what you are normally.

If you want to check out their collections, visit the site here

Wild Jasmine Hosiery

I just want to share with you the awesomeness of this hosiery. AND you can buy them in SA!

Shopping with the BF can be fun!

I just had this cool idea and mentioned it to my boyfriend who obviously agreed to do it He hates shopping with me (which guys really do anyway?) I thought it would be fun to go into a shop and let him pick out outfits he likes (and no, not only lingerie and bikini's). I'm not necessarily going to buy the clothes, but I would like to see what he chooses for me. I'm lucky that my guy actually appreciates the clothes I wear, and also tells me I look great even in my PJ's. I hope your boyfriends tell you that :)

Yes, my boyfriend is a nerd. And he is studying Engineering :)

City Bowl Fashion Market

Save the date! The next fashion market is 24 September, 9-2pm. Unfortunately the market is always packed and I wasn't able to get a stall. I'll go check it out though, as I can't wait to meet Leila from Bow Peep, Heather from Blackrose Bouquet, Janece from Vintage Lover, Nicci from Vamp.

I feel horrible for thinking this, but hopefully someone will cancel for the next one on 22 October... fingers crossed!

Babette Clothing

Barbara from Babette Clothing makes some of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen. I want to buy them all! She gets hold of fabulous vintage dresses and alters them. Check out her website OR visit her Birthday Sale on Thursday :)

Awesome People Hanging Out Together

Found this the other day via Happy Duck. One of my all time favourite blogs. Gives you a warm & fuzzy feeling inside.

Yoko Ono, John Lennon, Salvador Dali

Brandon Flowers (The Killers) and Lou Reed

Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin

Dustin Hoffman and Sir Laurence Olivier (that guy who always played the lead role in Shakespeare plays!)

Prince & Prince Charles (getting a little hot under the collar there eh?)

Please don't bail on us KOL...

When I started listening to Kings of Leon's album, Only by The Night, in 2008, I fell in love with it. Caleb's voice is so sexy and mesmerising, and the effects on the tracks are amazing. They really are a bunch of talented guys. I did a bit of research and found that they have actually been around for a while, and it was due to "Sex on Fire" that they started reaching us down here. When I heard that they were coming to SA, I almost did cartwheels around the room. I unfortunately stupidly overslept on the morning of the 5 December and the Golden Circle tickets were sold out in minutes. At least I got General Standing! I was super bummed when they announced that they had to postpone their tour because of Nathan's injured arm. I'm really really looking forward to their concert on 26 October. It will also be my first visit to the stadium ;)

Do you have tickets to KOL or Coldplay?

Cape Town Bloggers Get Together!

Claire from Darling Claire tweeted me about the next blogger meet-up for Mother City dwellers. I really can't wait as this will be the first time I'll get to meet all the people I communicate with on Twitter! There is sure to be lots of lovely drinks, eats and prizes.

Gotan Project

I was watching a bit of the movie Knight and Day and recognised a song by Gotan Project in one of the scenes. I must just express my love for their music! If you love Spanish Tango-esque/electronic music you will love them. Have a look at their website and you can listen to a few of their tracks from their albums. My favourite is Epoca. It's been used in quite a few advertisements and movies.

Isn't the cover for this album beautiful?

You Me and Everyone We Know Night Market

I really can't wait to attend this fashion market at the Labia. It's on 30 September at 5pm and the theme is neon/brights/clashing florals.

Maybe I can get a stall there... ;)

Check out the Facebook event for more info.

Hello Again

Hello Again is a shop in Long Street which I've been meaning to visit for some time. I follow their blog which is run by its lovely owner, Lynne. I am in love with their funky, colourful tees and hoodies. Also, some of Bow Peep's products are now sold in the shop too!

Lynne did a small post about my shop a while back, you can check it out here.

Oh yes, they are  having a spring launch on 22 September which I'm planning to attend. I can't wait to see what other goodies they sell :)
